Big Siblings

                                                   Big Siblings 2

The Big Siblings Mentoring program provides children and youth with a role model and a friend to engage with and share experiences of growing up. Through regular outings, a relationship is developed between the mentor and the mentee that is built on trust and common interests, and is supported by our experienced case-workers. The result is a life-changing experience for both the mentor and the mentee.  We welcome mentors of all genders identities and sexual orientations.  If a mentor feels uncomfortable with being gendered (Big Brother or Big Sisters) we have created a gender neutral term to encompass our traditional matches.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Saskatoon recognizes that it is detrimental to assume genders when matching our mentors and mentees, so we have moved to matching mentors and mentees with the gender that they identify with to ensure that we are an inclusive organization.

Big Siblings are asked to share 3 to 5 hours a week with their Little Sibling.

The program strives to do the following:

  • Provide a role model and a friend for children and youth.
  • Promote the importance of staying in school and healthy relationships with family and peers.
  • Nourish  trust and self-confidence in order to make healthy decisions.
  • Encourage leadership skills and independent thinking.
  • And above all, make a difference while having fun!
