Below Gord shares his career journey, the impacts of a positive role model and why he is involved with BBBS:
I am a mining engineer by education and have spent my entire life working in mine operations management and project development. The last few years I have been doing management consulting work for mining clients. This work has brought great opportunities to work and travel all over the world.
I have been married to my wife Lenore for over 32 years and have two amazing kids. My son Liam who is 24 and is working as an aerospace engineer, and a daughter Maggie who is 20 and is finishing an undergraduate degree in Chemical engineering.
In my spare time, I am a fitness enthusiast, I cycle and walk extensively and have recently taken up yoga. I am a passionate cook, and especially love outdoor cooking with fire. I enjoy reading, and have recently started building furniture and other wood working projects.
The most important role model in my life was my mother, she is the one that I shared all of my celebrations and heart breaks with and continued to seek her advice and guidance until her recent passing. Her calm, non challenging, non judgemental and intensely caring manner has been an inspiration for me throughout my life.
I was drawn to BBBS as I have felt a real debt of gratitude for all the gifts I have been fortunate enough to receive and wanted to find a way to give back to our community. One of my passions is supporting youth and the opportunity with BBBSS was a perfect fit. I have enjoyed my time with the organization and it has been immensely rewarding to see the organization grow and prosper into the amazing agency it currently is.
