My name is Uchenna Daniel Ifediorah and I am a Group Only Volunteer with BBBS.
As a newly landed immigrant some years ago, I was aware of the need to give back to my new community in Canada. I also heard the constant calls to action, but I always doubted my ability to make a meaningful difference.
This all changed when I took the step and contacted BBBS. After my first Group event, I was sure this was not going to be the last event for me. The joy on the little’s face and the shrills of excitement was just infectious. Being a father myself, I melted at the realization of how earnestly the 6-year-old boy by my side yearned for attention and guidance. His longings were genuine and should be available to all kids. I came to give my time but left feeling greedy because of the enormous sense of fulfilment and gratitude I took home with me.
Participating in various activities organized by BBBS has shown that we all are capable of supporting in various ways, physically or financially, as a regular Big Brother / Big Sister paired with a little or as a Group only Volunteer, or even simply helping spread the good word to our numerous connections.
Supporting the activities of BBBS has become pertinent considering the current global challenges and turmoil. It is often said that “the youths are leaders of tomorrow”, let us help give them a tomorrow. Help BBBS provide the foundation for a better future to empower our future generation.
