The In School Mentoring program provides children and youth in elementary school with a role model, a friend to talk with and someone to share the experiences of growing up.

For one hour, once a week, during the duration of the school year, Mentors and Mentees meet together. They engage in activities to help build the Mentee’s self-esteem. They do not meet outside of school, over the summer break or during school holidays.

The worldwide proclaimed COVID-19 pandemic forced a critical response from Big Brothers Big Sisters’ staff and volunteers in regards to limitation of the schools that engage in our In School Mentoring program.

Mentors and Mentees now participate in virtual mentoring to ensure they are still able to connect. This response ensures we deliver a safe, secure, private, and supported environment for mentors and mentees to meet over the web.

“As a local church community, when we read the stat that Kids Help Phone saw a 350% increase in calls and that 76% of those kids feel like they have no one to talk to and have felt isolated during this season, we knew that we needed to be a part of the solution. We are passionate about seeing children and family thrive in our city and we are huge believers in the impact mentoring can have, so a partnership with Big Brothers Big Sister Saskatoon makes so much sense for us.

We were incredibly honoured by the generosity of our community to be able to adopt 2 schools in our city and help connect kids with potentially life changing relationships through in school mentorship.”
